Wyndham Vacation Ownership Going Greener Published October 15, 2009 Wyndham Vacation Ownership, the world’s largest vacation ownership company and a member of the Wyndham Worldwide family of companies (NYSE: WYN), continues to spearhead efforts to incorporate environmental best practices at its more than 150 vacation ownership resort properties. Wyndham Vacation Ownership (WVO) is an important partner in Wyndham Worldwide’s expansive WyndhamGreen initiative, which is dedicated to developing and implementing environmental best practices across the company’s entire portfolio of travel products and services. WVO is focused on pursuing the core WyndhamGreen initiatives of promoting education, engaging the community as well as implementing water conservation, recycling and waste reduction, innovation and energy conservation methods through a variety of new programs and initiatives. “By the end of this year all of our properties will have completed a comprehensive Greening Certification Audit Program, which is our internal program designed to foster more environmentally sustainable practices,” said Gary Byrd, executive vice president and chief customer officer, Wyndham Vacation Ownership. “We’re also committed to partnering with other companies in our community, including Progress Energy, to ensure we’re unified in our approach to promoting sustainability.” Recently, Wyndham Cypress Palms and Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort in Orlando, Fla. were awarded an $83,000 rebate check from Progress Energy for incorporating more energy efficient lighting throughout the properties. Both resort properties converted all incandescent light bulbs to fluorescent bulbs, which made them eligible for Progress Energy’s Save the Watts program. Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort was also recently honored with a designation into the Florida Green Lodging Program, the first Wyndham Vacation Ownership property to earn this distinction, which signifies the property’s environmental leadership in the Florida hospitality industry. A voluntary program instituted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to encourage conservation and environmentally-friendly practices among the state’s resort properties requires a thorough property assessment with evaluation in six areas of sustainable operations, including communication/education, waste reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and transportation.
