‘Travel by the Metro’ guide series adds new cities to iPhone/iPod Touch applications

Published May 19, 2009

Dr. Michael Brein, developer of the Travel by the Metro, travel guide series, recently announced new applications for use with the iPhone and iPod Touch, including guides for London, Paris, Hawaii, Chicago, and Washington, DC.   Besides these great destinations,  apps for Los Angeles and Madrid are currently in development. Utilizing the iPhone and iPod Touch’s high-resolution touch screen, these new applications give travelers access to instant information about their destinations for just $1.99 each and are available exclusively through the App Store on iTunes.  (You’ll need to have iTunes installed on your computer!)

Like all of the Travel by the Metro guides, all of the travel guide applications include information on the city’s top attractions, the ability to view your current location, points of interest throughout the city, mass transit lines and stations with directions on how to reach your destinations, and walking maps to attractions and transit stations as well as photos of major attractions and transit stations.  “I’ve been studying how people travel for over three decades and they have the best time universally when they ingratiate themselves into the heart of a city,” said Dr. Brein, the brains behind the Travel by the Metro travel guide series.  “It’s clear that using public transportation is one of the best ways to see a city, get to know the people, and really, truly appreciate the culture.”

Dr. Brein aka “The Travel Psychologist” notes other benefits to using the Travel by the Metro “Envi” iPod Touch and iPhone applications.  “These days, many travelers are more sophisticated especially when it comes to environmental awareness,” he said.  “A lot of travelers want to avoid leaving a big carbon foot print while on vacation or on business travel and the use of public transport allows them to see the sights, without renting a car and contributing to pollution and congestion.”

Beyond being environmentally sensitive, another appealing advantage to the traveler using the Travel by the Metro “Envi” iPod Touch and iPhone applications as a guide to public transport is a significant cost savings.  While renting a car can cost hundreds of dollars a week, an all day pass on LA Metro is about $5, and one way ticket on the Paris Metro is about $2.  “People can really see the value when you compare those prices to the cost of a rental car, parking, and gas, especially considering European gas prices!” he said.  Dr. Brein’s Travel by the Metro “Envi” iPod Touch and iPhone applications—created by We-Envision.com, is a joint venture of Open Door Networks, Inc. and Project A Inc. The PDF series can be purchased for $8.00 each from www.michaelbrein.com.
